Candy Mountain is an early maturing yellow sweet corn that does well in cool short seasons. It is another favorite from Ken Fisher of Belgrade, Montana who started making selections from the hybrid ‘Kandy Korn’ back in the late 1960’s and was sharing what became Candy Mountain Super Sweet corn in the late 1970’s. It was an instant favorite of Bill McDorman who listed Candy Mountain in his catalog for 28 years. This corn germinates reliably in cooler soils, matures early, and produces well-filled ears even when heat is limited. Kernels have a rich sweetness with a more full, complex corn flavor than many modern super sweets- and the sweetness holds well even a few days after picking. The plants were bred to be short, but we found height to vary while many displayed beautiful tinges of a dark red color that made the plants a sight to behold. Seed stock shared by John Austin who lives a few miles from where Ken Fisher developed this corn.
