Merlot stands out in a verdant garden with a stunningly deep maroon color. It is a remarkably beautiful lettuce. The dark, antioxidant rich leaves are loose and frilly, mild in flavor, and great at baby leaf or full size. Slow to bolt, summer tolerant and cold-hardy, and ideal for dense planting and salad mix. Merlot was bred in the Netherlands as Galactic and introduced to the U.S. in the 1980s. Stunning, resilient, and unmatched for dramatic salad color. Seed stock shared by Sylvia Davatz.
